POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAMME, JUNIOR LEADER "LA CAIXA" AT ETIC-UPF

Postdoctoral fellowships at Universities and Research Centres of Spain are offered through the Junior Leader Programme from “la Caixa”, which is aimed at hiring excellent researchers—of any nationality—who wish to continue their research career in the Spanish territory on any discipline. Sponsored by Obra Social ”la Caixa”, the objectives of this programme are to  foster high-quality, innovative research in Spain and to support the best scientific talents by providing them with an attractive, competitive environment in which to conduct excellent research.

The Department of Information and Communication Technologies(DTIC) at UPF, accredited by the MINECO with the Maria de Maetzu for its research excellence, will be happy to host postdoctoral researchers from this program. You can check about DTIC research programs and our research groups at our website.

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION

In the current project about infant cogntion, we want to realize two aims in.

  1. We want to advance our knowledge of the early intuitive logical abilities of humans. In particular, we aim at finding specific markers of logical inferential processes, both behavioral (in infants and adults) and neural (in adults).
  2. We want to develop theory of errors as interactions between systems. Such theory may contribute to explain the limits of this intuitive rationality.

SYNCHROTRON IMAGE DATA ANALYSIS

The development and exploration of tools for 3D visualization and (semi-automated) 3D annotation of very large multidimensional, multimodal and multiscale volumes allowing the multi-scale visualisation and quantification of the macro and micro-structure of healthy and diseased hearts. These tools, simplifying greatly the large dataset handling, will allow a simultaneous comparison of several datasets of hearts. The results arising from this project will provide insights into the cardiac microstructure (such as myofibres, vessels and trabeculation organization) and the patho-physiological processes involved in different CVD. This information is crucial for future clinical applications to understand heart function and remodelling in the case of different CVD but also to provide more personalised treatments.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

We are currently looking for a research assistant to assist in carrying out infant research on the role ostensive cues play in logical reasoning. Previous studies showed that nonverbal cues, such as eye gaze, prosody and pointing, have a great impact on learning and development. We are now trying to understand the impact of one of the most basic ostensive cues, eye contact, on learning different types of information and on logical reasoning.

Application deadline: 31/08/2017
