There are 3 possible types of predoctoral contracts with established minimum gross monthly salary of 1.470,98€ for the 1st and 2nd year. This amount can vary according to the research group:

The monthly gross salary for the 3rd year is 1.576,05€ and for the 4th year is 1.970,06€.

Call for INPhINIT “La Caixa” Fellowships Programme 2019
Open PhD Fellowships at the DTIC, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain 2019 INPhINIT “la Caixa” Fellowships Programme
The DTIC as a “Maria de Maeztu Centre of Excellence” is a hosting institution within the INPhINIT “La Caixa” incoming Fellowships Programme proposing 18 project proposals at the different research areas of DTIC.
INPhINIT will recruit 35 PhD Early-stage researchers of any nationality to carry out their PhD projects in accredited centres with the Spanish Seal of Excellence Severo Ochoa, María de Maeztu or Health Institutes Carlos III and Portuguese research units accredited as “excellent” or “exceptional” according to the evaluation of the Fundação de Ciência e Tecnologia. In addition, researchers establish a personal career development plan including transnational, intersectorial and interdisciplinary mobility opportunities, and attend a full range of complementary training courses and workshops.
INPhINIT is focused on life sciences and health, technologies, physics, engineering and mathematics.
"La Caixa" Foundation will select the candidates who, subsequently, will propose the Research Centre and the pre-doctoral position in which he/she would like to do the research project. If there is agreement between the Centre, the supervisor, and the candidate, the fellowship will be awarded to the candidate.

Funding per fellow: 115.092 euros

104.400 euros (34.800 euros per year) including salary, employee social security contribution, income taxes and all compulsory employers’ contributions.

10.692 euros (3.564 euros per year) for research costs such as conferences and workshops attendance, short-stays, consumables and intellectual property costs, among others.

PhD Award of 7.500 euros will be granted to researchers that submit their thesis within 6 months after the end of the fellowship.

Eligibility requirements

At the call deadline, candidates must be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree.
-
At the time of recruitment, candidates must comply with one of the following options:
-
To have completed the studies that lead to an official Spanish (or from another country of the European Higher Education Area) university degree awarding 300 ECTS credits, of which at least 60 ECTS credits must correspond to master level.
-
To have completed a degree in a non-Spanish university not adapted to the European Higher Education Area that gives access to doctoral studies. The verification of an equivalent level of studies to the ones mentioned above will be made by the university when the admission procedure starts.

Mobility Rule: For doing their research at Spanish institutions, candidates must have resided in Spain for less than 12 months in the last 3 years immediately prior the call deadline. Short stays such as holidays will not be taken into account when calculating the mobility requirement.

Demonstrable level of English (B2 or higher).
DTIC PhD program admission:

Accredited undergraduate degree (Bachelor degree or recognised equivalent degree from an accredited Higher Education Institution).

Accredited graduate/master's degree (equivalent to a Spanish Master Universitario/Oficial, Master's of Research.... ) which enables them to access a Phd programme in their home country.

Total of 300 ECTS credits, 60 of those have to correspond to an official graduate, research oriented, master's programme.

About UPF DTIC
The UPF DTIC PhD program offers advanced training in a broad range of topics in the field of Information and Communication Technologies.
This is an innovative program, unique in Catalonia and Spain in terms of its content, which aims to provide a bridge between various disciplines in this field. The DTIC PhD program has been growing steadily and currently hosts about 130 PhD students and 40 faculty and tenure-track professors who can supervise a PhD thesis. The program received a Mention of Excellence award from the Ministry of Science and Innovation in 2011.
The DTIC department consistently ranks among the top computer science departments in Spain (e.g. the only computer science department from an Spanish university that has even been included in the top 100 of the Shanghai Ranking). The DTIC's research activities are organized around 15 groups pursuing a wide range of topics that include networking, wireless communications, multimedia, image and music processing, medical imaging, interactive technologies, artificial intelligence, data mining, and computational neuroscience, among others.
The UPF university was awarded in 2010 the distinction of International Excellence Campus by the Spanish Ministry of Education and it is widely considered to be one of the best universities in Spain (e.g. is the top Spanish university according to 2013 Times Higher Education Ranking).
The UPF is located in Barcelona. "Dorcas Muthoni" PhD Fellowship: Call 2020
The Dorcas Muthoni PhD Fellowship is a tribute to our Doctor Honoris Causa Dorcas Muthoni.
Dorcas Muthoni, a Kenyan engineer and entrepreneur, CEO and founder of the company Openworld, received our University’s highest recognition on 15th December 2017 for her significant work in the promotion of engineering studies among young women in Africa, the mentoring of young people, and her social commitment in the fight against poverty. This scholarship is aligned with our university institutional commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), it aims to contribute to quality education and gender equality for African Women.
The first edition of this PhD Fellowship was opened in 2018. We are pleased to launch our second edition in 2020.
The main objectives of this fellowship are:
(i) to promote gender equality & contribute to reduce the gender gap in ICT; by facilitating more women pursuing scientific/technological/engineering careers and lowering the barriers women face when pursuing careers in STEM disciplines
(ii) to share excellent research with African female researchers during their PhD Studies. Our ICT department consists of more than 20 research groups who are very active in international research projects (e.g. currently active in 38 H2020 research projects) and nationally we have the Spanish research excellence seal Maria de Maeztu). The Maria de Maeztu Strategic Research Program is a 4 year research initiative funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness to promote data-driven knowledge extraction research within the department.
(iii) to contribute to future social impact in African countries. The applicants are expected to return to their African home country after completion of their PhD studies in order to pursue a career related to ICT there.
This PhD fellowship seeks doctoral applications from talented African female students (only African nationality applicants will be considered) with strong research interests. Candidates for PhD positions must hold an M.Sc degree or equivalent.
The Dorcas Muthoni PhD Fellowship will be part of the Doctoral programme in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), that covers many of the most important research topics in the information society grouped into four main areas: cognitive and intelligent systems, audiovisual technologies, networks and communications, and computational biology and biomedical systems. Duration of the fellowship (PRC- Predoctoral Research Contract)
Three years (with the possibility of one year extension), renewed annually.
Type of fellowship (PRC):
We offer a predoctoral contract with a minimum gross monthly salary of 1370,85€ for the first and second years, and a gross monthly salary of 1468,77€ for the third year.
Teaching. PRC includes a teaching assistance load of 45 hours per academic year.
Start-up Fund. The fellowship will also include a startup/Landing Fund to facilitate the fellow’s initial expenditure. The fund will be for the amount of 2000€.
We do not recommend to come to Spain accompanied by family members, since the scholarship offered has not been designed to include them and we cannot assure financial, logistical or administrative support to cover for the family members.

The “Dorcas Muthoni” fellowships/PRC include the annual tutorship fees, but neither the administrative fees nor the fees for validations of degrees issued by a university outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) without homologation. "Dorcas Muthoni" PhD Fellowship: Call 2018
The new Dorcas Muthoni PhD Fellowship is a tribute to our Doctor Honoris Causa Dorcas Muthoni.
Dorcas Muthoni, a Kenyan engineer and entrepreneur, CEO and founder of the company Openworld, received our University’s highest recognition on 15th December 2017 for her significant work in the promotion of engineering studies among young women in Africa, the mentoring of young people, and her social commitment in the fight against poverty. This new scholarship is aligned with our university institutional commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), in order to contribute to transform our world.
The main objectives of this new fellowship are:
(i) to promote gender equality & contribute to reduce the gender gap in Information and Communication Technology - ICT; by facilitating more women pursuing scientific/technological/engineering careers and lowering the barriers women face when pursuing careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) disciplines.
(ii) to share excellent research with African female researchers during their PhD Studies. Our ICT department (DTIC) consists of more than 20 research groups who are very active in international research projects (i.e. currently active in 32 H2020 research projects, 9 of which are European Research Council grants) and nationally we have the Spanish research excellence seal Maria de Maeztu). The Maria de Maeztu Strategic Research Program is a 4 year (2016-19) research initiative funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness to promote data-driven knowledge extraction research within the department.
(iii) to contribute to future social impact in African countries. The applicants are expected to return to their home countries after completion of their PhD studies, and to pursue a career related to ICT.
