ABSTRACT:
In this workshop, I introduce students and early career researchers to the wonders of Jamovi (jamovi.org). Jamovi is an open-source, free Graphical User Interface for R, a programming language for statistics, data visualization, and data science. Jamovi is, in fact, an R package; however, in the spirit of IBM’s SPSS, it is designed to be easy to use and accessible: it has a point-and-click interface, it produces an interactive output sheet, it includes a spreadsheet editor, it saves your work (facilitating reproducibility and sharing), and it provides R syntax for all analyses (in case someone asks to see it). In this workshop, you learn to import data, obtain descriptive statistics, and run basic inferential statistical tests. In terms of inferential statistics, we explore both continuous and binary (discrete) data. We run linear and logistic regression, repeated-measures and mixed-model ANOVAs, and linear (and logistic) mixed-effects regression models. We conclude with a basic introduction to growth curve analysis, a special type of mixed-effects linear regression. I provide examples of how to report statistical results in your thesis, publication, or scientific report. Jamovi is available for Mac, Windows, Linux and ChromeOS, as well as via the web browser.
