English, Spanish and Catalan (students specializing in formal linguistics, computational linguistics or acquisition will have the option of completing the entire programme in English)
The Master in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics combines theoretical and applied linguistics in a single programme. Students acquire a solid grounding in essential areas of linguistic theory and specialize in one of five fields: formal and descriptive linguistics; language acquisition; language learning; lexicology and terminology; computational linguistics.
The ideal candidate will hold an undergraduate degree and be interested in language and linguistic communication in general, be open to multidisciplinary knowledge, and have a good working knowledge (both passive and active) of at least one language (preferably English) other than his or her own.
In order to be admitted to theMaster in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics candidates must submit the following documents:
Official undergraduate degree/diploma (or a bachelor's degree, a degree in engineering or architecture, diplomas, technical engineering and technical architecture diplomas, or, for foreign qualifications, the equivalent qualification awarded by an accredited higher education institution) and the academic transcript of the accredited official training with the average grade at the university of origin. Degrees in any academic field of study will be accepted.
Curriculum Vitae in Spanish, English or Catalan.
A letter of motivation in Spanish, English or Catalan stating the candidate's interest in following the master's programme (400 to 600 words).
Proof of level B2 ofCatalan(except for those candidates who have completed their undergraduate studies in a country where the language is the language to prove and for those candidates with undergraduate studies in a third country, proving of having completed at least 50% of the studies in the language to prove).
Proof of level B2 of Spanish (except for those candidates who have completed their undergraduate studies in a country where the language is the language to prove and for those candidates with undergraduate studies in a third country, proving of having completed at least 50% of the studies in the language to prove).
Proof of level B2 of English (except for those candidates who have completed their undergraduate studies in a country where the language is the language to prove and for those candidates with undergraduate studies in a third country, proving of having completed at least 50% of the studies in the language to prove).

The undergraduate degree/diploma and the academic transcript
If you have finished your Bachelor degree when you formalise your application, you will need to send us the following documents:
A photocopy of your undergraduate degree/diploma or Certification/proof of degree completion.
A photocopy of your official final undergraduate transcript.
However, if you have not yet completed your undergraduate studies when formalising application, you will need to provide us with the following documents:
A signed declaration of obtaining your degree before the commencement of the master's programme.
A photocopy of the provisional undergraduate transcript.
If the diploma or the academic transcript are not written in Catalan, Spanish, English, French, Portuguese or Italian, you will also have to include the respective sworn translations into Catalan or Spanish.
The master's programme provides suitable postgraduate training for students to enrol on a doctoral programme in one of its areas of specialization or to pursue a career in which language or linguistics plays a vital role.
It likewise prepares graduates to work as expert linguists at companies, institutions and other bodies and provides them with the skills they need to be valuable members of interdisciplinary teams in a wide variety of fields, such as education, health, law or publishing.
