The curriculum includes optional internships in external companies starting from the third year.

External internships are a type of training action carried out by students and supervised by the university. They have three main objectives. The first is to apply and complement the knowledge acquired during academic training. The second is to bring the student closer to the professional reality of the field in which they will work after graduation. The third is to develop the skills that will aid their transition into the job market.

In the Biomedical Engineering program, we have 84 companies and organizations where 229 students have completed internships over the past three years. Some of these include: CapGemini, NTT Data, Worldline Iberia, Accenture, Mango, Grifols, Volkswagen, INDRA, Avanade, Schneider Electric, IDIBAPS, Keonn Technologies, Aqua eSolutions, Vendo Services, Blowww 4 Analytics, Cuatrecasas, IOMED Medical Solutions, Sycai Technologies, Grupo Catalana Occidente, Gaes, Henkel, Indra, Corporació Guissona, Altran, RocaSalvatella, Penguin Random House and EY.

Some students also do internships with our research groups within the department.

The main motivations for students doing internships each year are: gaining new knowledge, getting closer to the profession, and increasing employment opportunities.

When selecting internship centers, motivations such as interest in the tasks to be performed, enthusiasm for the sector or business field, and the desire to develop predefined skills are emphasized. Professional networking and company knowledge are also valued.

The most valued aspects are: acquiring work experience, learning, financial compensation, the speed and ease of management, and the variety of centers available in the job placement system.

The program offers optional mobility stays abroad from the third year onwards. We have partnerships with leading universities across Europe and worldwide, including institutions in Germany (Tübingen, Múnich), France (París-Cergy, Grenoble, Lyon 1), Italy (Roma, Bolonia, Milà, Padua, Palermo), Sweden (Gotemburgo, Karlstad), Ireland (Maynooth), United Kingdom (Warwick, Essex), USA, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, and South Korea. These international experiences allow students to broaden their perspectives, enhance their academic journey, and build a global professional network.

Compulsory

In the third or fourth year of the Degree in Global Studies, students must do a compulsory stay abroad and take the equivalent of a minimum of 20 ECTS. Double degree Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) - Degree in Global Studies UPF

Within the framework of UPF internationalization, the Faculty of Humanities has consolidated an agreement with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Australia whereby the students of UPF’s Degree in Global Studies and RMIT’s Bachelor of Arts in International Studies can obtain a double degree by completing study abroad in their final academic year.

UPF Bachelor of Global Studies students who are nominated for mobility within this specific program will be able to complete the third year of their
studies at RMIT and, at the end of the mobility, obtain the Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from RMIT, in addition to the UPF Grau en Global
Studies. In Melbourne, UPF students will have to pass the subjects Working and Managing in Global Careers and Global Professional Practice, in addition to several optional subjects, a Global Internship and a Global Research Project that will also serve as Treball de Fi de Grau at UPF, thanks to the coordination between the two faculties. In the last two academic years several UPF students have enjoyed their study abroad within this program.

RMIT Bachelor of Arts in International Studies students who are nominated for mobility within this specific program will also be able to complete
the third year of their studies at the UPF and, at the end of the mobility, obtain UPF’s Diploma d'estudi propi en Estudis Internacionals en Context Europeu (i.e. Diploma in International Studies in European Context), in addition to the Bachelor degree from RMIT. At the UPF, RMIT students will have to pass several compulsory and optional subjects from the Degree in Global Studies, in addition to the Final Study Project, according to the agreement between institutions and the Diploma study plan. In the last two academic years several RMIT students have enjoyed their mobility within this program.

External internships in organizations liable to employ political scientists are compulsory and have a value of 10 credits.

While not compulsory, between 30% and 40% of students undertake a study period abroad. The faculty has established exchange agreements with approximately 50 universities in 20 different countries.

The Faculty encourages students to participate in academic or research stays abroad. The curriculum provides a trimester (second trimester of the fourth year during Supervised Internships) for those who opt to join a mobility program at other universities. Activities from exchange programs will be recognized in ECTS credits.
Additionally, the Faculty promotes research stays during the summer months. Nearly all students who completed the previous Human Biology degree at UPF have participated in research stays of this kind, mostly abroad.

They are worth 8 of the programme's 34 credits corresponding to optional subjects.

Study periods abroad are undertaken in the third or fourth year. Students can spend at least one semester at one of these prestigious foreign universities: Singapore Management University, University of New South Wales in Sydney, University of Connecticut School of Law, Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi in Milan, University College Dublin, University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign), Universität Mannheim, Université Catholique de Louvain, and Université Paris Est-Créteil. The courses they take, which will be agreed upon with the mobility coordinators, will be recognized as equivalent to the corresponding subjects in the UPF curriculum.

The curricular work placements are an optional subject of between 10 and 20 credits. There are also extracurricular, paid work placements of up to 800 hours per year.

Compulsory in third, optional fifth.

There is a compulsory placement in the third year, in the framework of the student exchange agreements of the Erasmus network and other agreements undersigned by UPF. You can apply for a grant to fund this placement during the second year. There is also the chance to undertake a second placement abroad in the fifth year.

The programme includes a subject called Internship. It involves students training in a public or private organization, be it Spanish or otherwise, with a view to enabling them to apply and complement the knowledge and skills they have acquired, familiarizing them with the sort of professional environment in which they will work as graduates, and helping them develop competences conducive to finding a job.

The ultimate goal is for students to put everything they have learned in the programme's other subjects into practice. To that end, UPF has a range of services for liaising between companies and students.

Every student will receive guidance from an academic tutor and a tutor from their host organization for the duration of their internship.

They can take place in the third or fourth year, and have a value of 14 credits. International Business Economics students who undertake external internships must do so abroad or in international companies.

One of this bachelor's degree programme's distinguishing features is that it is compulsory for students to undertake a study period abroad, preferably in an English-speaking country. The credits a student obtains (a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 40) during such a period may be deemed to correspond to optional subjects or, if recognized beforehand, to compulsory third and fourth-year subjects.

The Faculty encourages students to go on academic and research study abroad periods. The curriculum includes a free election term for those who choose to go on a mobility programme at other universities. The exchange programme activities will be recognised with ECTS credits.

The Faculty also encourages research placements during the summer months. Almost all students at the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences have gone on research placements of this kind, in most cases abroad.

Many of the programme's subjects are practical in nature, particularly the Integrated Journalism Workshop in the third year.

Furthermore, in the fourth year, students are required to undertake an internship in a media organization of one kind or another (press, radio, television, the internet, a news agency, a communications office, etc.). To that end, the Faculty of Communication has established agreements with Catalonia's leading companies in the field.

The programme's students are encouraged to take advantage of mobility opportunities and, in particular, the possibility of study periods (through Erasmus and other programmes) at foreign universities, in Europe or beyond, at which training in journalism or other areas conducive to professional specialization is available. Ideally, such study periods should take place in the programme's final year.

Internships have a value of 10 credits. They are to be undertaken in the fourth year, following a personalized selection process conducted by the programme's staff and the participating companies. They will take place in an advertising company.

Study periods abroad may be undertaken at European universities through the Erasmus programme, or at universities outside Europe through bilateral agreements established by UPF.

Internships are extracurricular and offer an outstanding opportunity to work on innovation projects at national and international companies, whilst at the same time further enhancing participants’ employment prospects. Furthermore, under a programme-specific agreement, students are eligible for a specific scholarship programme in addition to the scholarships available through the university system in general.
