Pompeu Fabra University has progressively incorporated social commitment and sustainability into its management and structure through a series of declarations, documents and actions that culminate in its commitment to an ethical sustainability policy (a principle approved by the Board of Governors in October 2014), which encompasses the economic, environmental, and social spheres.

Since then, many things have changed: debates on sustainability in scientific, academic, economic, social and environmental fields have highlighted the complexity of the issue; the climate emergency is an unavoidable reality, and caring for people—both within and outside the university community—is a task we all share.

The university, as a public institution – and from the international to the local level – acknowledges the leading role that universities must play as a driving force in the fight for people’s health and well-being on a more sustainable planet.

In this regard, UPF not only takes part in all these discussions –in the classroom, in research, and within the institutions to which it belongs– but is and aims to continue being an agent of change guided by its commitment to the planet and the people who inhabit it.
