  • Presentation

    • The Humanities degree in Pompeu Fabra University was created in order to rebuild the bridges between the various humanistic degrees (philosophy, philology, art, and history), which address separately the complexity of human nature, and create experts in establishing connections between the different knowledge areas, whil recovering the pure humanistic spirits.

      Therefore, it is a degree with an interdisciplinary viewpoint, which includes subjects about different languages and literatures, history, art history, and thought, with a clear transversalist vocation: its objective is to reach the knowledge of humans as individuals and as a society. We want graduates entirely implied in the current world: more than ever our society needs professionals that are able to face our daily social and cultural challenges, from an approach that can integrate different points of view in a constant conversation. 

      UPF's Humanities graduates are trained to be transformation agents in fields such as cultural management, editorial world, cultural industry, our historical heritage's interpretation and its divulgation, digital communication, and dialog with the actors of our surroundings, every time more complex. A versatile training for a wide range of possibilities in the knowledge society.

       

    • Objectives

      Humanities studies offer transversality and multiculturalism. These are essemtial tools to become a versatile graduate, able to read the world with an opinion of their own, and, therefore, specifically prepared to adapt to the professional requirements of a dynamic and complex society.

      These are the competences you'll have achieved at the end of your Humanities graduate training process:

      • You will know the main episodes of historical and cultural humanity evolution.
      • You will know the main artistic, literary, spiritual, philosophical and scientific works and movements of history.
      • You will know and learn how to use the main linguistic and rethoric resources of Catalan and Spanish, as well as English.
      • You will know the basic elements of geographic means, and of human society structures.
      • Aprenderás a utilizar las herramientas informáticas necesarias para la actividad académica y profesional en las humanidades.
      • Conocerás el mundo laboral gracias a la posibilidad de hacer prácticas profesionales en empresas e instituciones de prestigio.
      • Sabràs aplicar i adaptar els coneixements adquirits a situacions noves amb flexibilitat i creativitat.
      • Comprenderás y sabrás interpretar de manera razonada y pertinente textos escritos, discursos orales (conferencias, debates, etc.) y otros documentos (imágenes, mapas, etc.) de carácter académico.

      Competences

      Every student, at the end of their education process, must be able to exercize the following competences:

      • Understanding and interpreting reasonably and using written texts and oral speeches (conferences, debates, etc.) and other kind of documents (iamges, maps, etc.) of an academic nature.
      • Be able to synthesize correctly and to integrate information that is contained in written text, oral speeches and visual documentation.
      • Justify and reason one's opinions and defend them publicly, in front of an audience that's expert or inexperienced in that subject.
      • Communicate properly in and oral or written context in Catalan and Spanish, as well as using English for academic uses in a satisfactory way.
      • Become familiar with learning and using a secong foreign language.
      • Using computer tools, with ther corresponding application, required for academic and professional activity in the field of humanities.
      • Being able to work in teams, respecting each other's opinions in a pluralism and tolerance setting.
      • Applying and adapting with flexibility and creativity knowledge acquired in new context and situations.

    • Curricular internships equate to credits (4, 8, o 12 ECTS) and are optional. They will appear in the student's record under the name of External Internship.

      Non-curricular internships do not equate to credits but will help build some experience. They will not appear in the student's record.
