Catalan, Spanish, English
Most subjects in the 3rd and 4th year, and elective ones, are taught in English. In 1st and 2nd year, students can choose bwtween Catalan/Spanish group or English group. Therefore, there is the opportunity to study the whole degree entirely in English.
A B2 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is highly recommended for students enrolling in the degree.
The four degrees of the UPF's Polytechnic School -Computer Engineering, Audiovisual Systems Engineering, Telecommunications Network Engineering and Mathematical Engineering in Data Science- are designed in a very integrated way, and this design implies that the first year is mostly common in the three studies, and that in the second year there are some common subjects. Furthermore, it also enables the Computer Engineering student to obtain in little time a second degree, the Audiovisual Systems Engineering, the Telecommunications Network Engineering or the Mathematical Engineering in Data Science, if he or she takes as optional subjects those which are compulsory in these three degrees.
The syllabus is oriented towards offering a strong, practical and multidisciplinary training, specifically oriented towards audiovisual media. The teaching is completely updated with the constant technological advances and connected with the business sector and an innovator research.
The world of digital communication is based on computer science, telecommunications networks and other basic areas (mathematics, physics, etc.), and specially on its innovative aspects, like those related to the most advanced applications on the Internet. This is the basis of the studies: a modern and innovative way of using basic tools, applied to the multimedia.
The degree on Computer Engineering provides, on the one hand, a fundamental and strong training in computer science which enables for the exercise of the profession and, on the other hand, it has an orientation towards digital communication, which enables to take optional plans focused on audiovisual systems, communications and multimedia contents, intelligent systems and networks and telematic services.
What is proposed is, therefore, a strong training, with innovations, and a training applied to the new multimedia contents, digital audiovisual and telematic services.
Graduates in Telematic Engineering from the UPF acquire general and specific skills during their studies. These general or transversal skills enhance the personality and can be beneficially applied in professional life in any social or economic field. These include oral and written expression, in Catalan, Spanish and English, and enable graduates to work in interdisciplinary teams, as well as working independently, with high motivation in terms of quality.
The specific skills acquired by our graduates, which are necessary for working in a technological and business environment, will enable them to have a firm understanding of modern telematic technologies and to adapt to future technologies, which is an essential skill in an environment that changes as constantly as the technology sector.
The programme's curriculum includes compulsory internships, which are to be undertaken from the third year of the course.
The ESUP formalizes, every course, around 200 agreements with enterprises, research groups and other organizations of the TIC field such as: Atos Spain, Deloitte, Everis, Keonn, Fundació ESADE, APFUTURA, Mobile Media Content, Telefónica I+D, Roche, etc.
The main motivations of the approximately 120 students who carry out internships every course are: acquiring new knowledge, knowing nearer their future job and being able to widen the possibilities of working insertion.
When it comes to selection criteria of the internships' centers the highlights are motivation towards the tasks to develop, interest towards the sector or enterprise field and the motivation towards the pre established competencies. It also appears the establishing of professional contacts and the getting to know an enterprise.
The aspects valued more positively are: acquisition of working experience, learning, economic remuneration, the rapidity and simpleness of the management and the variety of centers offered in the working stock market.
The training offered enables to practice positions of responsibility in the computer science and communications field: management, project supervision and development, technical services, commercial services... Furthermore, specialization allows the specific training in the field of digital media technologies, from research to the creation of audiovisual and multimedia products and of any kind of products for the information society.
In the Polytechnic School we are convinced that studying a whole degree in English can be a distinguishing feature and an additional competence in the curriculum of graduates, which will allow them to be in a better position when looking for a job and have a clear international projection. This is why we want to be the first public Catalan university to offer the possibility of studying three engineering degrees completely in English.
Therefore, from year 2016-17 the teaching of one group of each subject in the syllabus is given completely in English (theory, practice, seminars, exercises, exams…).
The School offers a first year group with 80 vacancies, common for the degrees in Computer Engineering, Audiovisual Systems Engineering, Telecommunications Network Engineering and Mathematical Engineering in Data Science. To access this group you will have to request it in the moment of formalizing the enrolment.
In case there are more applicants than vacancies, these will be given in order with the criterion of the admission mark to the studies.
No compulsory requirement is requested, and there will not be any eliminatory level test for students who ask to access the English group. However, it is recommended that you have a level equivalent to a B2 in the European framework of reference for languages (equal approximately to the First Certificate in English).
Once started the year, the student will have to stay in the English group of all subjects until the term ends. You will only be able to change to the Catalan and Spanish groups within the following terms.
