SHAHAL AZIZ KHOSO
Department of Political and Social Sciences

Biography

Shahal is a Ph.D. candidate at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in the department of Political and Social Sciences. Prior to finding his feet in the field of empirical research, Shahal did his Master's in Political Philosophy from UPF, on the back of a Master's in International Relations. After working for 5 years as a journalist in Pakistan, he was awarded the AHBP Fellowship for Overseas education by the Government of Pakistan's Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Shahal has also worked as a Teaching-Assistant (22/23) for 'Comparative Politics & Democratization' at Institut Barcelona Internacional Estudis (IBEI), while representing the Ph.D. students of the department as an elected representative.
His thesis focuses on federations from the Global South with a colonial history; titled as Postcolonial Federalism. The novel concept replaces the Western democratic framework of federalism applied to federations that were once British colonies, mainly: Pakistan, India, Nigeria, Myanmar and Malaysia. Instead, the thesis focuses on tracing the de jure and de facto colonial legacy and its effects.
Apart from his interest in federalism and postcolonialism, he also finds his time meddling with film-philosophy, literature on migration, distributive justice, and the multifaceted faces of nationalism today.
