20/01/26 Introductory session to political semiotics

Introductory session on "How to study political discourse: an introduction to political semiotics"
As a social practice carried out by human beings (individually and in groups), political action has an inherent discursive component. How to study this dimension? That is, how to approach politics (and the political) from a semiotic-discursive perspective interested in meaning, sense and signification? This session focuses on what it means to study political discourse from a semiotic perspective, both in theoretical and methodological terms. In addition to addressing conceptual and methodological issues that aim at introducing the discipline of semiotics, we will present some analyses of populist discourse from this perspective, focusing on the discursive construction of "the people".
It will be given by Sebastián Moreno Barreneche (Associate Professor at University ORT Uruguay and visiting scholar at BACES).
All PhD students in mid- and advanced stages, as well as postdoctoral students and anyone interested in the topic, are welcome!
