Gabriel Cohen is a PhD candidate in the program of Political and Social Sciences at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He is also a predoctoral fellow at the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI), where he carries out his research under the supervision of Andrea C. Bianculli. Previously, Gabriel earned an MA in Transnational Governance at the European University Institute and a BA in History from the University of Nevada, Reno.

His research interests include Latin American politics, Brazilian foreign policy, and the international political economy of great power competition, while his doctoral dissertation “A Tale of Two Capitalisms: Sino–European Investment in Brazil (2014-2019)” explores the macroeconomic and political determinants which have shaped foreign direct investment in Brazil.

In his spare time, Gabriel serves as Chief Editor of Latin America’s largest English-language newsletter, Latinometrics, and regularly contributes analyses to international news outlets.
