IULA mourns the death of Jean-François Sablayrolles

06.01.2021

On 11 December 2020, Jean-François Sablayrolles left us after a long-term illness. Jean-François Sablayrolles was a professor and researcher at the Université de Limoges and the Université Paris 7 Denis Diderot, and since 2009 he was a professor at the Université Paris 13 (Villetaneuse), and he was also linked to the UFR (Unit of Formation and Research) Lettres, Langues, Sciences Humaines et des Sociétés. He was also a member of the LDI (Laboratoire Lexiques, Dictionnaires, Informatique) research laboratory - UMR 7187 of the CNRS/Universités Paris 13/Cergy-Pontoise (2009-2017).

Since he finished his doctoral thesis Les néologismes du français contemporain at the Université Paris 8 in 1996, he was one of the most important references in French neology, with publications such as Les néologismes, with Jean Pruvost (PUF, 2003), Les néologismes. Créer des mots français aujourd'hui (Garnier, 2017) or Comprendre la néologie. Conceptions, analyses, emplois (Lambert-Lucas, 2019). He was also founder and co-director, with John Humbley, of the journal Neologica, revue internationale de néologie, since 2007.

Jean-François Sablayrolles participated in the 1st International Congress of Neology of Romance Languages, held in Barcelona and co-organised by the Institut d'Estudis Catalans and the Institute for Applied Linguistics of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, with the conference “Neologismes, classes d'objets et extraction automatique”.

We, the members of IULA, would like to convey our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
