IULA mourns the death of Ana Maria Cardero

01.12.2020

Ana María Cardero García, professor at the Facultad de Estudios Superiores de Acatlán (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México), specialist in terminology and neology, left us on October 5, 2020. For many years she directed the Research Seminar on Lexicology, Lexicography and Terminology, at the same university, and also was key to the teaching of terminology in Mexico. She was the author of the Diccionario de términos cinematográficos usados en México (1989), El neologismo en la cinematografía mexicana (1993) and Terminología y procesamiento (2003), which is the result of a terminology project on satellite control.

Daughter of Spanish Republicans exiled in Mexico, she always had a very close relationship with her colleagues working on the terminology in the Iberian Peninsula. Specifically, with the members of IULA and above all with Dr. Cabré, with whom she soon moved from a professional and scientific relationship to a lasting friendship. We had the opportunity to share with her many activities on terminology and neology at IULA: from the first Escola Internacional d’Estiu de Terminologia (1997); those organized by herself in Acatlán; or the symposia of the RITerm network, of which she was a founding member.

We would like to convey our condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. We will miss her.
