I want to do a mobility exchange

If you're eager to spend some time abroad during your 3rd or 4th year, UPF offers various mobility programs:

  • Study at a European university through the Erasmus program, or alternatively, go outside of Europe with a bilateral agreement.
  • Study within Spain with the SICUE program.
  • Do internships in Europe with the Erasmus Internship program.
  • Undertake a solidarity stay in the summer with the MApS program.

I already have a mobility placement

Once you have a mobility placement, you'll need to follow the 4 steps outlined on the OMA website.

Before leaving (Step 1)

Once you've been assigned a mobility placement, you must fill out and sign the study agreement and send it to the secretary through a CAU or email. If you make any subsequent modifications to the agreement, you must send the Confirmation of the study agreement within the first four weeks from the start of your stay.

IMPORTANT ENROLLMENT: In order to keep your mobility placement, you must enroll in at least one subject at UPF during the academic year of your stay and within the established enrollment period (July), and then pay the corresponding academic and administrative fees. In addition to enrolling in those subjects you know for certain you'll take at UPF, you're also required to enroll in any mandatory subjects and basic training subjects not yet passed. If you're away for the entire academic year and have no pending mandatory or basic training subjects, you can enroll in an elective subject for the 3rd trimester.

There are two versions of the study agreement:

  • In Catalan: "Imprimir acord UPF"; approved by the coordinator, no signature required.
  • In English: "Imprimir acord uni destinació"; coordinator's signature required.

This document must be approved by the Mobility coordinator, Ernest Montbrió, through the Virtual Secretary. If you make any modifications to the study agreement during your stay, you must notify via email: [email protected].

Remember to communicate any changes to the Secretary via email or CAU.

If you're interested in recognizing subjects you take at the host university during the academic year 2024-2025, you must fill out the following form.

You have to attach the course syllabus of the subject, from the hosting university and from UPF, with the web link from where you obtained it. Without the course syllabus, no subject can be recognized.

Recognition of mobility subjects must be made with subjects offered in the academic year of the exchange and that are part of the curriculum of the degree you are stydying.

You can take subjects with equivalence at UPF:

  • As mandatory or optional subjects of the curriculum
  • As mobility credits (content different from the curriculum subjects)

You must consider the minimum and maximum credits you can enroll:

According to the curriculum of your degree, the maximum optional mobility credits that can be recognized:
-ICT: 20 ECTS
-GEBM: 30 ECTS

Can I recognize the DFP (Degree Final Project) during the mobility?
No, the Final Degree Project cannot be recognized in any of its modalities.

Can I carry out the DFP during the mobility?
Yes, it can be worked on remotely during the stay with an assigned tutor at the home university.

You can start the DFP at UPF (for example, if you're here for the 1st trimester) and continue it remotely with your UPF supervisor. Or you can start it 100% remotely if the supervisor agrees. If you find a supervisor who agrees to supervise it at the host university, you could do it with that person as well, but always under the supervision of a UPF director.

You must submit the final project in June and defend it at UPF in July (or September in case you're still on mobility in July).

Lastly, you cannot have a stay abroad solely to do the DFP since it is not recognized and therefore does not count towards the minimum 15 credits per trimester/semester required to obtain the mobility scholarship.

What happens with mandatory subjects when I go on exchange? In some cases, it may be difficult to find recognition for all mandatory subjects. In these cases, you can opt for one of the following options:

  1. Request a progression in studies to take them earlier.
  2. Leave them for later, upon your return from the stay.
  3. In case it's a failed mandatory subject, you'll have to enroll in it with the corresponding surcharge.
  4. The Academic Regulations of Bachelor's Degrees, article 8.4 states: 8.4.1. Recognition of a UPF subject will not proceed, nor can it be part of a credit recognition table between two studies, when any of the following cases occur: b) If the student has taken the exam for the subject to be recognized in the current study.
  5. Discuss your situation with the coordinator who teaches the subject to see if they allow you to follow it remotely or provide you with another option.

Can I validate language credits? Language credits taken during your mobility stay cannot be recognized. However, we encourage you to learn the language of the host country and take advantage of your stay by taking language courses that complement your knowledge.

Failure to meet the minimum requirement of 15 credits to be enrolled and passed may result in the return of the scholarship.

Once you have returned (Step 4)

When you have returned from your stay, you need to complete the following procedures:

UPF Subject Enrollment

1. From the Secretary, you will be enrolled in the credits listed in the confirmation (we will inform you via email once your transcript has been updated).

2. If you have applied for a scholarship: once the credits have been incorporated into your transcript, and if you receive notification from the Ministry confirming that you lack credits to reach the minimum required for the scholarship (from December onwards), you must submit an appeal to the UPF scholarship unit through the form available on the AGAUR website (you can submit it by email to [email protected]) within one month from the date of the scholarship application decision.

For any clarification, you can contact the Student Aid Unit.

3. If you are not a scholarship recipient, you do not need to enroll in mobility credits in July; we will handle the extension from the Secretary once you return.

If you have a failed subject and you go on exchange, you should consult the Subject Teaching Guide to see if it is possible to take it remotely. If it is not possible, you will need to enroll in it in the following academic year with the corresponding surcharge.
If you finish your degree in the 2023-2024 academic year and only have internships and/or mobility left, you need to keep your transcript active, so you must enroll in at least one elective credit.

Receipt of grades from the abroad stay

We need the grade certificate from the host university in order to incorporate the grades into your transcript. You need to send the Teaching Guides to the Secretary.

In some cases, they will be sent to the OMA or to the School of Engineering Secretary. Other times, you will need to send them to us, either by email ([email protected]) or through CAU. Therefore, before returning, make sure to confirm with the host university how they will handle this process.

Grade conversions

The reference table of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, and Sports will be used for grade conversions by country. These conversions will be used by default unless the administration of the host university (not the student) provides the academic coordinator and/or the teaching area of the School of Engineering with an official conversion table from their grading system to the Spanish grading system.

If the Teaching Guides are not received, the subjects will not be entered into the student's transcript.
