Barcelona is a bilingual city, where both Catalan, the city's and Catalonia's own language, and Spanish, are spoken. One of the features of the  program is that it can help you to have a basic and receptive knowledge of Catalan by the end of the first term.

Before arriving in Barcelona

You can take the courses of Parla.cat, a virtual space that offers educational materials for learning languages. These are open and free courses, although registration is mandatory.

Once in Barcelona 

It is advisable to sign up for the Catalan language plan, which has been designed to offer practical information on the Catalan language and culture. There are very few places available.
