Minor in Digital Humanities
Description
This proposal should serve as an introduction to the digital humanities, which are becoming increasingly necessary for the professional and academic future. The digital humanities involve the application of new technologies to cultural, linguistic and social fields. The result is new ways of creating, organizing and conveying knowledge that may lead to a new, multidisciplinary, cross-disciplinary episteme. The digital humanities require knowledge of technical tools and concepts, of the language and methodologies of culture, and of the study of society. The practice of the digital humanities enables constructing a meeting point between the approach to questions relating to the human sciences and solving them by digital means.
Target
Students of UPF centres and UPF graduates enrolled in the Alumni programme.
Characteristics
To obtain the minor qualification, students must complete a minimum of 24 ECTS credits.
Students may not include in the minor subjects that are part of their syllabus.
Of the total number of credits that make up the minor, students can take only a maximum of 8 credits as part of their academic record of the official degree at UPF, either as free elective cross-disciplinary training or as RAC credits, depending on the activity.
Training activities belonging to more than one minor can only be included in one of the student’s minor transcripts, if the student is studying more than one.
Subject timetables and the classrooms where classes will be taught will be determined by the studies responsible for the relevant training activities. The subjects are taught in the language stipulated in the syllabus or in the programme of the proposed activity.
Activities
Some of the courses have prerequisites; in this case, they are set out in the attached table.
- Students of the Engineering School must take a minimum of 8 ECTS of subjects in block A, which correspond to cultural fields.
- Students of official studies taught by schools other than the Engineering School must take a minimum of 8 ECTS of subjects in block B, which correspond to technical aspects.
