Pompeu Fabra University is committed to promoting ethical sustainability in all its actions, understood sustainability that combines economic development with ethical behaviour, social justice and environmental protection.

In this sense, it may be said that a system is economically sustainable when it does not exhaust the funds to finance it; socially sustainable when it does not lead to social conflict, and ecologically sustainable when the environment can absorb pollution and renew natural resources without depleting them.

Ethical sustainability includes, but is not limited to, economic, social and environmental sustainability. In addition to being global, it is not warranted solely by the selfish interest of a group, but also by the moral obligation to respect the interests of other people, species and generations with which we must share the planet.

Based on these principles, Pompeu Fabra University has approved an Ethical Sustainability Policy that regulates all its actions in this area.

Throughout its history, Pompeu Fabra University has become aware of the problem of environmental sustainability and this has translated into the University’s way of behaving. The UPF annual reports publish the University’s actions concerning environmental sustainability and mobility.

The image below depicts a summary of the institutional actions that UPF has carried out in the past in terms of sustainability. It also presents the main sustainability milestones achieved as well as the main goals for the future, in view of the key target of achieving CO2 neutrality by 2040.
