UPF Sostenible also invites all members of the University community to get involved in projects to promote environmental sustainability. This is based on the recognition of the role of the members of the University as an institution towards the surrounding community, both inside and outside the University. Below we outline some of these initiatives.

Mobilize for the jungle

In Spain there are millions of disused mobile phones, of which less than 5% are recycled. At the same time, the exploitation of coltan, a mineral used to manufacture them, is the root cause of clashes that lead to millions of victims and refugees in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Illegal mining uses child labour and destroys the habitats of species like chimpanzees and gorillas.

To help turn this situation around, UPF is joining the ‘Mobilize for the Jungle’ initiative, which involves the recycling of old mobile phones to help save lives. It’s as simple as sending your disused mobiles or tablets to UPF Sostenible, located in the rectoral building. We look forward to receiving them!

Grants and Awards

Another way to contribute positively to the environment is through research and investigation into environmental sustainability. In this sense, UPF promotes this initiative through calls for the following awards and grants in this field:

Environmental volunteering

One way to actively participate in projects that have an impact on the social and the natural environment is by participating in some of the volunteering projects in which UPF collaborates. Whether you are a student, an international student, a PAS or a PDI, you will find a complete list of volunteering initiatives in which you can participate on the UPF Solidària website.
