The new bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology and Economic Analysis is a degree consisting of 240 ECTS credits lasting four years, offered jointly by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). Taught entirely in English, it responds to the need to train new industrial leaders that combine a solid understanding of innovation and technology with in-depth knowledge of economics.

According to the coordinator at UPF, Humberto Llavador, professor with the University’s Department of Economics and Business, “the degree combines subjects specific to industrial engineering with the fundamentals of economics by providing high-level interdisciplinary knowledge to mixed profiles of engineers with the need to develop management and integration tasks, so that they can better adapt to the situations and needs of a constantly evolving industry”.

The new degree, which will give its students the opportunity to develop innovation projects through professional internships in domestic and international companies and excellent opportunities for employability, will prepare for direct access to the  master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, taught at the UPC, and will provide the necessary training to further studies in economics.

The subjects will be taken on the campuses of the two universities, which will enable exploiting the multidisciplinary nature of the teachings and for students to share time and space with their Industrial Engineering and Economics counterparts. The industrial technology block will be held at the UPC’s Barcelona School of Industrial Engineering, and the Economics block at the Faculty of Economics and Business at UPF, on the Ciutadella campus.

Preparing professionals who combine rigorous technical expertise with a global industrial dimension

The bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology and Economic Analysis (40 places for the 2018-2019 academic year), is part of an integrated bachelor’s and master’s degree programme that qualifies regulated professions. After completing the degree, students will be prepared to pursue further education in economics, and if they follow the path of the master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, they will be trained to practise as industrial engineers.

Some of the career opportunities available to the graduates are the direction and management of projects, installations, plants, companies and technology centres in various industrial sectors; the calculation and design of products and processes; strategic planning; quality management and environmental management; research, development and innovation in products, processes and methodologies; leadership and management of changing economic environments, and the management of companies in the regulated sectors and of network services, among others.
