Competences that should be attained

  • To use journal rankings systems properly
  • To evaluate and contextualize the information needed critically
  • To redefine search strategies based on the information retrieved and the potentialities of the databases
  • To use the collaborative tools of the bibliography manager Mendeley to share references of a research project
  • Understanding the concept of open science and open acces
  • To know the options to decide where to publish: journals’ policies, main publishers, financing requirements, etc.
  • Understanding how the open access mandates affect a search
  • Identify and recognise the Creative Commons licences
  • Get to know the UPF Digital Repository and how to publish it
  • To manage researcher profiles correctly: ORCID, ResearcherID, ScopusID, Google Scholar Profile

Self-training in IT competences is recommended to obtain the advanced ACTIC certificate: the advanced level requires the certification of at least two competences chosen by the candidate from the following: dealing with written information, dealing with graphic, sound and image-based information, dealing with numerical information, dealing with data and content presentation. You must have first attained the intermediate certificate.

This certificate will improve your CV!
