On the 23rd and 24th of April, the UAM is hosting a two-day workshop on Information Integrity and the Defence of Democracy in the European Union: Reflections and Proposals from Spain’s 40 Years in the EU, in collaboration with the Office of the European Parliament in Spain.

The first day (23rd of April) will take place at the headquarters of the European Parliament Office in Spain and will focus on the recent proposal for a European Democracy Shield. The programme features a keynote address by Nathalie Loiseau, Chair of the European Parliament’s Special Committee on the Democracy Shield, followed by expert discussions on information integrity, foreign interference, and the implications of this new initiative.

The second day (24th of April) will be held at the new UAM spaces at Castellana 280 and will address Spain’s preparedness to implement this strategy. Through a roundtable bringing together leading scholars and practitioners, the session will explore the geopolitical and technological dimensions—particularly the role of artificial intelligence—in strengthening democratic resilience.

Together, these sessions aim to foster informed debate and generate practical proposals for enhancing democratic safeguards in the EU.
