EU Citizen's Debates
The Citizen’s Debates bring prominent Spanish and European experts to provide practical short speeches on issues related to current EU decision and policy-making challenges, as well as current EU affairs, followed by a larger time period for debate. The debate's subjects are based on the priorities of the European Commission but the content is tailored to the target audience. Hence, the citizen’s debates include a short intervention from a key speaker emphasizing the decision-making responsibilities of EU key actors (institutions and Member States) and explaining the policy consequences for affected citizens of the challenges at hand. After that, participants have the opportunity to actively participate in a debate with the key speaker about their concerns on the topic. We also expect the issues posed by these topics to be highly sensitive to the target audience.
Additionally, we are eager to experiment with new forms, such as recently consolidated digital meetings, to further develop the events (i.e. the European Coffee Debate Project). We rely on an ad-hoc relationship with the Catalunya-Europa Foundation for their organization and subsequent dissemination.
