May 9, 2020 - Europe Day (Virtual) Celebrations

BACES wants to remind everyone about the occurrence of the so-called Day of Europe (9th of May). Due to the extraordinary circumstances, we are still willing to offer some digital resources for its celebration.
08.05.2020

Although not known by many, tomorrow (May 9, 2020) represents an yearly recurrence of the so-called Day of Europe. It was established at European Community Level in 1985 in commemoration of the 1950's Schuman Declaration giving a fundamental input to the process of European Integration.

Every year, such date is an important chance for a plethora of events (ranging from festivals to concerts, from conferences to critical debates, etc.) reminding us of the EU fundamental values and of the necessary citizenship involvement and awareness in European issues for its inhabitants.

Due to the extraordinary circumstances, it has been impossible for us to organise a proper event for celebrating the occasion. Nonetheless, BACES still wishes to endorse some initiatives and relative content material available online!

1. Tribute Video: Check out a really intense tribute video to Europe realised by VoxEurope on Youtube (click on the link above). Whether you agree or not with the federalist argument, it offers a wide landscape of European historical landmarks and the road ahead still left to overcome.

2. EUPOL JMC / EDC UAB Tribute to Robert Schuman: Our colleagues from the Jean Monnet Chair EUPOL and the relevant European Documentation Centre (UAB) are celebrating Europe Day through a virtual expo containing a selection of pictures dedicated to Europe's founding father Robert Schuman. You can check it out on the corresponding Flicker account.

3. National Citizenship Dialogue (Online): The European institutions have organized a citizen dialogue with very prestigious guests. Mr. Josep Borrell (High Representative for Foreign and Security Affairs, EC Vicepresident) and Mrs. Arancha González Laya (Spanish Ministers of Foreign Affairs) will be available online to answer questions related to current EU affairs (i.e. European answer to Covid-19; EU strategic priorities).

Time: Saturday May 9, 11.30 - 12.45

Digital Venue: You can follow the event on streaming (and participate throuh social media) by following the link:
