8th Workshop for Secondary School Teachers
8th Workshop for Secondary School Teachers

On July 15th 2025 took place the 8th editon of the workshop for secondary school teachers organized by the Jean Monnet Chair in EU Governance (UPF): "The EU within the New Global Order. Strategic Autonomy, Security and Democratic Values".
This year's speakers were, once again, Dr. Andrea Noferini (CEI, International Affairs and UPF) and Ms. Concepció Muñoz (documentalist of the European Documentation Center of the Autonomous University of Barcelona).
Introduction to the Workshop
Faced with profound changes in the international landscape—such as the intensification of conflicts like those in Ukraine and Gaza, tensions with powers like Russia and China, and the weakening of the rules-based multilateral order—the European Union is called upon to redefine its role in the world. These changes are occurring alongside internal challenges such as the rise of the far right, debates over the European Green Deal, and tensions regarding democratic values within some Member States.
Objectives of the Workshop
This workshop proposes a reflection on the current and future role of the EU in this new global order, emphasizing three fundamental axes:
- The commitment to strategic autonomy in key areas such as energy, defense, and technology.
- The construction of a European defense capability, compatible with NATO but with greater autonomous action capacity.
- The defense of democratic values in the face of disinformation, populism, and internal and external instabilities.
