About the Speaker

Sebastián Moreno is Associate Professor of Culture and Society at Universidad ORT Uruguay. He earned his PhD in Social Sciences from the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (Germany), with a doctoral dissertation focused on populist discourse. His research draws on sociocultural semiotics to examine discursive and cultural practices in the political domain, with particular attention to the construction of collective identities (especially national and supranational) and to political phenomena in which meaning, sense-making and signification play a central role. In addition to his academic work, he has served in professional roles at the European Commission, NATO and the United Nations. He is currently a visiting scholar at the Barcelona Centre for European Studies (BACES) of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
