The 12th Annual Lecture on EU Studies will feature Fernando Perreau de Pinnick from the European Commission, who will discuss how current global geopolitical shifts are reshaping Europe’s position in the world. The lecture will explore the EU’s evolving role across key domains — from trade and defence to human rights and global governance — and consider how Europe can respond strategically to emerging challenges and opportunities in an increasingly unstable international order.

About the Speaker

Fernando Perreau de Pinnick is currently Head of Unit for Risk Management and Security in the Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union (DG TAXUD) at the European Commission. With more than three decades of service at the Commission, he has played a central role in shaping the EU’s international trade and customs policies. His extensive experience includes leading negotiations on goods and services in multiple EU free-trade agreements and managing high-level customs relations with the EU’s global partners and the World Customs Organization. Drawing on his long-standing expertise in international diplomacy and economic governance, he brings valuable insights into how Europe can navigate an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape.
