UPF, top Spanish university in the Times Higher Education ranking

The University, which comes 164 th in the world ranking and 72 nd in Europe, is the only one in the Spanish State classified among the top 200, also the highest ranking Spanish university for the social sciences.

ranking THETimes Higher Education (THE), one of the most prestigious and influential university rankings in the world, has published the results of its annual ranking in which Pompeu Fabra University has climbed to 164 th place, globally, and 72 nd in Europe.

These results, the best since 2010, make UPF the only university in the Spanish State to qualify among the top 200 best universities in the world.

In last year's edition, the University came in the 201-225 bracket and so its climb in this year's ranking is quite considerable. By fields of knowledge, UPF comes in 78 th place for the social sciences, and it is also the only Spanish university to appear in the Top 100.

Domini nation of Anglo-Saxon universities and strong influence of Asian universities

part of the ranking that appears the UPFGlobally speaking, for yet another year the ranking shows the clear dominance of the Anglo-Saxon universities, given that half of the world's Top 100 are North American; this is followed, in number, by European (35, of which 11 are British and 8 Dutch), Asian (11) and Australian (5) universities. No Latin American universities appear in this block.

Also, as occurred in the previous edition, the top ten positions are held by North American and English universities: the California Institute of Technology, Harvard, Oxford, Stanford, MIT, Princeton, Cambridge, Berkeley, Chicago and Imperial College, London (with a few changes in position among them compared to the 2012 edition).

With regard to the Spanish and Catalan universities, UB and UAB are within the 226-250 bracket, ahead of th e Autonomous University of Madrid (301-350 bracket) and the universities of Navarra, Rovira i Virgili, the Polytechnic of Valencia, Valencia and Vigo (351-400 bracket).

UPF stands out for the impact of its scientific production and the internationalization of the community

The method of analysis used in the THE includes thirteen indicators regarding five main categories with different specific weights for the overall score : teaching (30%), research (30%), impact of papers (number of citations) (30%), internationalization (of both students and lecturers) (7.5%), and knowledge transfer and innovation (2.5%).

As in previous editions, UPF stands out for the impact of its publications, measured, among others, through the citations received and for which the University scores 85.2. This indicator reflects the quality of the scientific production carried out at an institution. In addition, the University is noted for student and lecturer internationalization (51.7). The scores of the remaining categories were: knowledge transfer and innovation (37.3), teaching (27) and research (27.1).
