Rànquing THE 2014 perfil UPFTimes Higher Education (THE) presented the results of the ranking that it produces every year, which is one of the most prestigious, with the highest international profile. This year, UPF is once again the leading Spanish university in the ranking -and the only one among the top 200- in 165 th position internationally and 72 nd in Europe.

This ranking also highlights the results achieved in the social sciences field, in which the University is ranked 67th globally and 19th in Europe. Among other factors, the University's excellent position in this area is due to its excellent results in the "citations" indicator in this section. Both the overall ranking and the rankings by knowledge areas are based on a combination of thirteen indicators for five major areas, weighted as follows: teaching (30%), research (30%), international outlook (7.5%), transfer (2.5%) and citations (30%). In the latter, which measures the impact of publications and therefore the influence of the research done at the institution, UPF obtained a score of 95.9 points - a result very similar to leading universities including Harvard (96.9), Yale (95.3) and Oxford (87.3).

In the overall standing, compared to the list for 2013, UPF has slightly fallen back in the indicators that measure teaching, research and knowledge transfer, but has improved its international outlook and the impact of its citations. The latest rankings make this clear. The latest list produced by the renowned QS ranking also highlighted the institution's high international profile, and place the UPF as Spain's leading university in terms of the percentage of international faculty members, and it also topped the ranking in the social sciences. Moreover, in the ranking produced by the University of Shanghai, UPF was also the leading Spanish university in the social sciences field (in the world's Top 75 in economics and business); although the methodology for this ranking favours universities that are larger and those with a longer history. Likewise, of the five disciplines assessed in this ranking, UPF was also among the top 200 in computer science (mathematics, physics and chemistry are the other three subjects evaluated).

Anglo-Saxon domination of the Top 100

The 2014 Times Higher Education ranking once again shows the domination of Anglo-Saxon universities, mainly in the United States and Great Britain. As in the previous year, the top ten positions are occupied by the following universities: the California Institute of Technology, Harvard, Oxford, Stanford, Cambridge, MIT, Princeton, Berkeley, Imperial College London and Yale (some of these universities changed their position compared to the 2013 list). As for the overall classification, half of the world's top 100 universities are in North America; they are followed in numerical terms by European universities (34, of which 11 are British, 6 are Dutch and 6 are German), Asian universities (12) and Australian universities (5). There is no Latin American university in this section.

Finally, among the Spanish and Catalan universities, UB is in the 201-225 section and the UAB in the 226-250 section, ahead of the universities of Valencia and the Autonomous University of Madrid (301-350 section) and the University of Navarre (351-400 section).
