Pompeu Fabra University today hosted the first meeting of stakeholders of the Catalan cultural and creative sectors of the RIS3CAT Media Community, coordinated by the Eurecat technology centre, endowed with an investment of 13,688,490 euros to carry out eight collaborative R&D&I projects over the next four years, with the aim of contributing to the promotion and exchange of the sector and positioning Catalonia as an international benchmark.

Pompeu Fabra University today hosted the first meeting of stakeholders of the Catalan cultural and creative sectors of the RIS3CAT Media Community, coordinated by the Eurecat technology centre, endowed with an investment of 13,688,490 euros to carry out eight collaborative R&D&I projects over the next four years, with the aim of contributing to the promotion and exchange of the sector and positioning Catalonia as an international benchmark.

For the first time, 34 companies, organizations and institutions in the cultural and creative industries and R&D&I organizations in Catalonia are collaborating with the challenge of transforming knowledge and technology into economic, social and cultural value and develop new opportunities for cultural production, distribution and consumption.

The RIS3CAT Media Community totals 13.7 million euros of investment in eight R&D&I projects in the Catalan cultural and creative sector

This action plan of the RIS3CAT Media Community will receive a grant of €6,000,000 from the Catalan Government, awarded by ACCIÓ, the agency for business competitiveness.

In this regard, the RIS3CAT Media Community will integrate science, technology and creativity and will address areas such as artificial intelligence and automation; massive data and data analysis;  hyperpersonalization; the development of new formats; human-computer interaction and haptic technology; cloud computing; next generation networks; cybersecurity and cryptography; social networks and the cooperative economy, and immersivity, virtual reality and augmented reality.

An action plan structured around eight innovation projects

The RIS3CAT Media Community will be carrying out eight innovation projects, of which Eurecat will lead PICAE, which will examine innovative models of audiovisual and editorial content recommendations, and Mironins, which is to redesign museum visits through transmedia storytelling, gaming and new technologies.

Meanwhile, i2cat will lead ViVIM, a project which aims to advance in the generation of a new audiovisual format based on omnidirectional video.

Pompeu Fabra University will lead the nanoMOOCs projects, that will define and develop a new audiovisual and publishing format that will integrate a series of multimedia learning resources; Engagement, for the design of technologies that allow interaction between the contents on display at museums and user experiences, and EDvidence, which aims to create a methodology to intervene in the processes of innovation and organization of business dealing with educational and cultural exchange.

The eight projects, up until 2022, will deal with artificial intelligence, data analysis, hyperpersonalization, cybersecurity and the development of new formats, among others.

IDENTIT@RT, led by Connociam, will create a platform to handle copyright for creative works that allows co-creating, displaying, marketing, licensing and distributing works through a new virtual market by way of technologies like Blockchain.

Also, lead Creactivitat is to lead ZINKCAT, which will develop a protocol aimed at marketing designers and agencies that will enable establishing the conceptual bases for creating and improving the online user experience.

The RIS3CAT Media Community is one of the RIS3CAT communities accredited by the Catalan Government through ACCIÓ, challenged with transforming knowledge and technology into economic and social value. RIS3CAT Media is coordinated by the Eurecat technology centre.
