Update on expired residence permits and TIE cards during the state of Alarm

We would like to inform you that last week the order on expired residence permits and ID cards for foreigners, was published in the BOE.Here is a summary of the main points to consider:
25.05.2020

  • Temporary authorizations that have expired will be automatically extended, without the need to issue an individual resolution for each of them by the Immigration Office.
  • The automatic extension will start the day after the expiration of the authorization and will last until six months after the end of the alarm status.
  •  The validity of the foreigner's identity card whose validity has expired during the state of alarm, as well as in the ninety calendar days prior to the date on which it was decreed, will be automatically extended for the same period than permits (six months from the end of the alarm state).
  • Those who are abroad will be able to enter Spain with the presentation of their valid travel document and the expired foreigner's identity card.
  • Despite this, and taking into account the indications given by the police, as this recognition is in Spain, in order to return those who are abroad would have to confirm with the airline (for their control of documentation) and , if they are outside the Schengen area and must have customs control, with the border authorities of the country from which they travel.
  •  The period of the state of the alarm does not count for the purposes of the maximum 6 months of stay abroad in order to renew the temporary residence permit
