We at UPF are highly committed to our social and economic environment and use our research and knowledge potential to promote the population’s economic development and growth and wellbeing.

We endeavour to weave a network of relationships that create value not only for the University, but also companies and institutions. Partnerships based on an agreement in which each party contributes vital elements: the institutions and companies, insight into needs and the market, as well as the ability to adjust costs and deadlines; the University, incentive for new solutions based on scientific foundations and the rigour inherent in the pursuit of new knowledge. The efforts to establish a common language and common forms of cooperation between these two visions often result in a powerful synergy.

Collaboration options with companies and other entities

UPF, a technological partner for companies

UPF offers its research capacity to help enhance innovation among companies. There are two basic ways to cooperate:

—Contract research: development of a research project defined by the company and specified in a contract with the University.

—Collaborative research: the company and one of the University’s research groups work together to address a corporate challenge. The University can help secure public funding to co-finance the project.

The expertise of UPF’s teaching and research staff at the service of companies and other institutions. Studies, reports, expert opinions, technological advice, etc.

A stable and long-term partnership that provides the means to pursue broad teaching, research and transfer objectives in a specific field of knowledge (e.g. final degree project awards, in-company training plans, conferences and seminars, development of joint lines of research, publications, technical and scientific events, etc.). The content is defined on a case-by-case basis, based on the priorities and needs of the company and the University.

The purpose of an industrial doctorate is to promote cooperation and the transfer of knowledge between the business world and the University’s doctoral programmes by training young researchers. The company or institution must have a strategic project to which the doctoral student may render their services, and which will culminate in the writing of their doctoral thesis.

UPFeina is an annual job fair organised by Pompeu Fabra University. It is a point of contact between students and graduates looking for professional opportunities (internships and/or employment), on the one hand, and companies and institutions interested in recruiting UPF talent, on the other.

Year after year, the event brings together around sixty cooperating institutions and close to three thousand students and graduates from any of the bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral programmes offered by UPF or its affiliated schools.
