Xavier Freixas, professor in the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) Department of Economics and Business and a Barcelona GSE Research Professor, has accepted direction of the first Santander-UPF Chair of Finance. The Chair of Finance is a fruitful result from long-standing collaboration between Banco Santander and the UPF over the past 15 years.

Through Santander Universities, the two organisations have strengthened their partnership with an agreement that establishes new projects improving educational options for students, promoting university entrepreneurship, and increasing the international projection of the UPF.

One of the agreements is creation of the Santander-UPF Chair of Finance, which aims to promote teaching and research of Banking Economics and knowledge dissemination in the field of finance. Directed by Prof. Freixas, the Chair of Finance is expected to begin operations in March 2016, with some of its first actions being joint activities, participation at economic fora, and stakeholder meetings.
