Guillem Lopez Casasnovas, Professor of Economics of the Department of Economics and Business of the UPF, has collected one  Josep Trueta medal for health merits awarded by the Government of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

The ceremony of the awards was held last September 25th at the Palau de la Generalitat, chaired by the Minister of Health, Boi Ruiz, and with the presence of Núria de Gispert, President of the Catalan Parliament. The medals and plaques Josep Trueta are annually awarded to nine people and three organizations of the health sector for their significant contribution to the progress and improvement of health.

Guillem López Casanovas is Professor of Economics at UPF since 1992, he got his PhD in Public Economics from the University of York (UK) and he has taught at various international universities. At UPF he has held the positions of Vice-rector for Economics and International Relations and Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences.

In 1986 he created the first Postgraduate in Health Economics and Health Management, and in 1996 he founded the Center for Research in Health and Economics (CRES-UPF), which he directed until 2005 and he is currently its principal investigator and member of its Government Board. He was Chairman of the International Health Economics Association, he has acted as senior advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO) on health inequalities in the European Union, and since 2000 he is member of the Advisory Council of the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality.

Currently, and since 2005, he is an independent advisor of the Government Council of the Bank of Spain, member of the Advisory Council for Economic Recovery and Growth (CAREC) and member of the Advisory Council for the Sustainability and Progress of Health System (CASOST).
