José García Montalvo, professor of the Department of Economics and Business of the UPF, has received one of the 25 grants awarded to research projects of the RecerCaixa 2012 program for promoting the excellence in scientific research in Catalonia, promoted by the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP) and the Obra Social "La Caixa".

The ceremony took place on Friday 22nd February in CosmoCaixa Barcelona. The call RecerCaixa 2012 has been very competitive, because the 25 winning projects were selected among a total of 369 projects submitted, all of them of a high scientific quality, according to organizers.

The research project of García Montalvo "The Great Spanish Recession is not a crisis like the before ones: youth, housing and labor market transition" has been selected between all the projects presented within the field of employment, labor market access and job insecurity, especially for young people. The grant is earned with 74,917.61 Euros.

According to the researcher, the consequences of the so-called Great Recession can be seen in all aspects of the economic life. The objective of this research project is to analyze the effects of the Great Recession on the access to the labor market, or job transition, of young people, and the possibilities of consolidating their job role. This analysis is important because recent researches show that the conditions of access of young people to the labor market determine their entire future career (probability of unemployment periods, wages, etc.).
