The Institute for Political Economy and Governance (IPEG), created on February 2013, is the result of the joint collaboration of Universitat Pompeu Fabra, the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics and La Caixa foundation, and has received support from the Government of Catalonia.

IPEG is housed temporarily at the Department of Economics and Business of the UPF, in Mercè Rodoreda building, while the Social Sciences Research Park is being built alongside. Works are expected to end in April 2014.

IPEG is a research center that focuses on the interaction between politics (political regimes and institutions, political order and conflict, the aggregation of preferences and interests) and economics (development, the economic cycle, redistribution and welfare). The director is Carles Boix, Robert Garrett Professor of Politics and Public Affairs at Princeton University, (currently on leave).

Faculty joining IPEG for this academic year 2013-2014 are Professors Maria Petrova and Ruben Enikolopov, and Shanker Satyanath as a visiting professor. The institute will also count with two post-doctoral researchers: Francesc Amat and Aina Gallego. Administrative issues are dealt by its coordinator, Anna Alsina.
