Christian Michel, Professor at the Department of Economics and Business of the UPF, received the Reinhard-Selten-Award 2013 of the German Economic Association (Verein für Socialpolitik). The award, endowed with 3.000 Euros, is honoring his paper "Identification and Estimation of Intra-Firm and Industry Competition via Ownership Change".

In his paper, he proposes a novel empirical framework to estimate how fast and how strongly merging firms adjust to maximize joint profits after a horizontal merger and to jointly infer the type of competition and the firms' cost structure in the industry under consideration.

The award ceremony took place on September 4th in Düsseldorf (Germany), during the Annual Congress 2013 of the German Economic Association. The annual award is given to a young researcher under 32 whose work is distinguished by its originality, importance, and clean methodology.
