Guillem López Casasnovas honorary doctor by the Isalud University of Buenos Aires

Guillem López Casasnovas, Professor of Public Economics of the Department of Economics and Business of the UPF, was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Isalud University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) on 19 November, in recognition of his long-time teaching in public administration of health programs and his work training health economists in South America.

Before being awarded an honorary doctorate, Professor Guillem Lopez gave a conference entitled "Welfare State and Health Sector Financing against the European Economic Crisis".

During the ceremony, Guillem López was mentored by Ginés González, founder of the Isalud University (one of the most prestigious institutions in Argentina dedicated to health, environment and social policies), former Minister of Health with Nestor Kirchner and also an alumnus of the Center for Research in Health Economics (CRES) of the UPF.

The main lines of research of Guillem López include measuring the efficiency of the public sector, the changing role of the public sector in general (and in the health sector in particular), fiscal balances, funding for local government finances, health economy, dependency and intergenerational balances.

Guillem López is a renowned advisor in the field of health and public administration, for example, he is a member of two advisory councils of the Government of the Generalitat de Catalunya: Council for the Sustainability and Health System and Council for Economic Recovery and Growth CAREC). At the state level, he is an advisor of the Ministry of Health and an independent advisor of the Bank of Spain, and internationally, he chairs the World Association of Health Economics (IHEC) and he is a member of the WHO Commission for the Study of Health Inequalities.
