The 'Horitzons' project opens this academic year the registrations for volunteering

The call, adressed to UPF undergraduate students, is still open until October 18th.

The 'Hortitzons' project is an innovation and social transfer programme, which arises from the interest of a UPF expert group from the university social responsibility field.

Each year, several volunteering students from the UPF do several actions in some public high schools from the Ciutat Vella district in Barcelona, with the aim to approximate the university
to some high school students, with little university references, and therefore work in their future beliefs and expectations.

Thus, this project pretends to provide references and some university strategies to high school students about what studying at the university means and how to do it, by working some competences:

  • Contextual competences: What is the university? How is it organized? What can I find?
  • Methodological competences: How can I study and learn at the university?
  • Digital competences based on the search for information: How do I find information resources to do a good research work?

Furthermore, the UPF volunteering students will work competences such as social commitment, communicative competence, teamwork, creativity, planning and empathy. Their participation is recognized with 2 ECTS crediths within the PACS Programme (Social Commitment Activities).

In the academic year starting this year, this competence development project addressed to first year high school students will be carried out in fives secondary schools of Barcelona:

  • Institut Milà i Fontanals
  • Institut Pau Claris
  • Institut Joan Salvat-Papasseit
  • Institut Miquel Tarradell
  • Institut Verdaguer

As a novelty, this academic year 2018-2019, a pilot test will be developed in the school INS Miquel Biada of Mataró in collaboration with Tecnocampus, a UPF associated center.

This project is led by the Centre for Learning, Innovation and Knowledge (CLIK), Library and IT service (LRC) and University Community Support Service (SACU), in collaboration with teachers
from the Economics and Business Department and Political and Social Sciences.

Recently the 'Horitzons' project has been identified as an example of good practice and it has been published in Banco de Innovación de las Administraciones Públicos (BIAP).
