Gemma has been involved in issues of the relationship between Europe and the Mediterranean since 1989. She was program director and director of the institutional relations unit of the international foundation Anna Lindh based in Alexandria, Egypt, from 2009 to 2016. For three decades, before Going to Alexandria, she worked at the Mediterranean Institute (IEMed), an entity created and financed by the governments of Barcelona, ​​Catalonia and Spain, based in the Catalan capital and where she served as director of the Programs Department. During her career, she has been responsible for important programs such as Dawrak-Citizens for Dialogue on youth participation in public life in Arab countries (2012-14). She has also contributed decisively in the preparation of important forums such as the first Euro-Mediterranean Civil Forum (EuroMed 1995); the World Congress of Human Movements 2004 and the Anna Lindh Forum 2010, 2013, Moltaqa-Dawrak 2014. Gemma has supervised key Mediterranean studies (Afkar Ideas and Mediterranean Yearbook until 2008, Anna Lindh Report on Intercultural Trends 2012 and 2014) and the Manual on Intercultural Citizenship Education (edited in 2017).
