My research into the origins of journalism began during my PhD studies in History at the University of the Basque Country. While my career later focused deeply on Basque-language press history, my passion for the news networks and information ecosystems of the Early Modern period has remained a constant throughout my academic life.

  • Key Milestone: I am especially proud to have co-edited the critical edition of what is considered the very first Spanish newspaper: Gaceta de Roma (Valencia, Felipe Mey, 1618–1620), alongside Rafael Soto and Carmen Espejo.   • Recent Research Lines: My latest work expands on these early media systems, focusing on:
    • The history and content analysis of the Gazeta de Ámsterdam.
    • San Sebastián's role as a European information hub ("News from the border").
    • The Iberian perspective on early modern pandemics and European news networks.
    • Narrative strategies in the Baroque era and the dissemination of news in the Spanish Empire.
