If you are interested in applying for a PhD on LEXICON, VARIATION OR LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGIES, the research groups and the researchers of the Institute for Applied Linguistics (IULA) offer you a warm welcome in Barcelona, at the Campus of Communication of the Pompeu Fabra University, within the The PhD programme of Translation and Language Sciences:

  • Workspace shared with the rest of researchers scholars in each group
  • Active participation in projects, academic activities, seminars and research publications
  • Supporting the applications for PhD fellowships and funding through the external organisations
  • Funds for participating in international congresses
  • Possibilities of grants, work contracts or financial aids offered by the University Pompeu Fabra

All research groups at the IULA are consolidated groups from the Catalonia Research Plan, and they have ongoing research projects and regularly organise academic activities.

The professors-researchers-tutors of these groups accept supervising, co-supervising and co-tutorship (joint programmes) of doctoral theses in the following research lines: lexicology, lexicography, terminology, neology, descriptive linguistics, linguistic variation, language technologies, computational linguistics, language engineering, corpus linguistics, specialised discourse analysis, change management and language diversity.

 

Requirements and Application:

In order to access to a doctoral programme in the IULA research group, you must:

  • Have completed 300 ECTS credits, 60 of those have to correspond to an official research-orientated master's programme.
  • Send a letter of interest to the head of the chosen research group (or to the director of the IULA), accompanied with the updated Curriculum Vitae and a brief subject proposal explaining the research interests, the topic or the topics on which you are willing to work.
  • Receive the approval letter from the head of the research group to be able to pre-enrol in the doctoral programme.
