What is the PARLA3 grant for grant holders?

Students who were awarded an Equitat grant or a general grant from the Ministerio or any kind of grant for postcompulsory studies (which includes university and also “batxillerat”) during the academic year 2022-2023 can apply for this modality of the grant for the language courses offered in 2023-2024.

PARLA3 grants cover up to €600 per level or sublevel on which the student has enroled (the specific amount will be set depending on the price of the courses and can never exceed, under any circumstance, the final price for the courses or modules that have been taken). However, students can apply for this grant more than once during an academic year if they complete courses for successive levels. Therefore, if students choose to take more than one course of the same language during one academic year (from A2 to B2.2 CEFR levels, both included), they will be able to apply for a grant for each course. For example, as long as the level of the courses is increasing, students may take two intensive English courses, one from October to February and the following one from February to June, or they may take an intensive course and then an intensive summer course.

Starting in 2022, students are no longer required to pay the price of the courses in advance: instead, they can enrol on the courses they want to take without paying anything (as long as the final amount does not exceed €600, as is the case for the intensive English courses or the FCE preparation courses). Students will need the enrolment form in order to apply for the PARLA3 grants, a process which must be completed within the established periods for every call and always before the start of the course on which they have enrolled.

• First call: from 15 July to 16 October 2023 at 2 pm, for intensive language courses starting in October (intensive English, French, German and Italian courses).
• Second call: from 1 February to 15 March 2024 at 2 pm, for intensive language courses starting in January (intensive English, French, German and Italian courses).
• Third call: from 3 to 28 June 2024 at 2 pm, for summer English courses which start in July).

Resolutions

• Students who were awarded the grant for the first call will receive the established grant amount during the second half of November, and they will have to make the payment for the course to Idiomes UPF within the following 7 days.
• Students who were awarded the grant for the second call will receive the established grant amount during the second half of February, and they will have to make the payment for the course to Idiomes UPF within the following 7 days.
• Students who were awarded the grant for the third call will receive the established grant amount during the second half of April, and they will have to make the payment for the course to Idiomes UPF within the following 7 days.

Therefore, undergrad students from any Catalan university that fulfill these prerequisits can benefit from these grats if they enrol on an English, German, French or Italian course of levels A2, B1, B2.1 or B2.2 (CEFR).

Starting requirements to benefit from the PARLA3 grants for grant holders

• You must have been awarded an Equitat grant or a general grant from the Ministerio or any other general grant for postcompulsory studeies (which includes university and also “bachillerat”) during the previous academic year, 2022-2023.
• You must be enrolled on an undergraduate program at a Catalan university during the academic year 2023-2024, and you cannot have any previous univeristy degree.
• You must be enroled on a language course at Idiomes UPF during the academic year 2023-2024 (accepted CEFR levels: A2, B1, B2.1 or B2.2; accepted languages: English, French, German or Italian).
• You cannot have a B2.2 CEFR accreditation for English, French, German or Italian.

• Applying for the grant

Grant holders must apply for the PARLA3 grant within the established periods and always before the start of the language course on which they have enrolled (they will need the enrolment receipt).

• Resolution of the grants

AGAUR will publish a list of the awarded candidates during the first weeks of the language courses. Once students receive the grant, they will have 7 days to pay the lanuage course to Idiomes UPF (via bank transfer). Students who are not awarded will have 7 days to pay the full price for the course. If they are unable to do so, they will be removed from the course.

On the other hand, if students receive a grant to take a course which has been cancelled because there were not enough students (the minimum is 13), they will have to contact AGAUR to let them know about the situation and they will be able to participate in another call.

• Justifying the grant
• Once the course has finished, grant-holder students must send achievement certificate to AGAUR to prove that they have reached the level. After that, they can apply for the PARLA3 grant again for the following level (up to B2.2, included).
• If grant-holder students do not pass the course, but they have followed it in its entirety (they have attended at least an 80% of the classes), they will not be able to apply fot the PARLA3 grants again for that same level until they pass it.
• If grant-holder students abandon the course or they do not follow it as established (minimum attendance of 80%), the grant will be revoked.

How to enrol on a course and benefit from the PARLA3 grants

1. Students must choose the language they want to take (from A2 to B2.2 included) and enrol on the course through the by following the enrolment instructions.
2. Students must bear in mind the relevant information for grant holders and select the code [1764/4 - Només becaris: Matrícula especial cursos Idiomes UPF.

3. At the end of the enrolment process, an enrolment receipt will be generated. Students must save this document carefully, since they will need it to apply for the PARLA3 grant before the start of the course. We ask students to apply for the PARLA3 grant immediately once they have the enrolment receipt to a Idiomes UPF course (instructions to obtain the enrolment receipt).
