What is the CLUC-EMI?

The teaching and research staff certificate of proficiency for teaching in English (CLUC-EMI) includes a written test and an oral exam and aims principally to assess whether the examinee has the necessary language skills to teach in English. The language skills assessed are, in some cases, in the level B2 band of the CEFR, and in others level C1.

Recipients

This call is addressed to academic staff who wish to accredit their language skills for teaching in English at university level.

 

Exam format

  • Written test: 90 minutes
  • Oral exam: 30 minutes, individual: 15 minutes’ preparation time and a 15-minute exam)

 

Next call: June 2026

Exam dates

  • Written test: Friday, 26 June 2026, at 1 pm.
  • Oral exam: Between 22 June and 3 July 2026, at different times. Once the registration process is completed, the date and time of the oral part will be specified.

Registration and results

  • Registration dates: from 25 May to 14 June 2026, at 1 pm.
  • Registration procedure: you must fill out the registration form (available from 25 May at 9 am).
  • Number of candidates: 40 maximum per university (a minimum of 5 registrations are required to celebrate the call).
  • Price: €75
  • Publication of results: 17 July 2026.
  • Test re-assessment: from 20 to 24 July or from 1 to 4 September 2026 (via previous appointment).
