- ECTS credits: Up to 6 RAC credits for (non-Catalan speakers) undergraduate UPF students according to the current legislation. Each quarterly Catalan course awards 3 ECTS credits. Erasmus or exchange students can also obtain credits for these Catalan courses: in order to do so, you will need to send the certificate to the academic coordinator of your home university (FAQ). If you are a UPF undergraduate student, you will need to send the certificate to the secretary of your studies.
- UPF Certificate: Certificate with level CEFR consolidated
- Number of students per group: 10 minimum; 30 maximum
- Who can enrol on the course: everyone over the age of 16
Entry requirements
You can enrol directly on the level you think you have to take. In order to confirm your enrolment on a level higher than A1, you will have to demonstrate your level by:
- sending a certificate to [email protected]
- taking a free level test
We will confirm your enrolment on the course once you have demonstrated your level and if necessary, we will change the level you have initially selected.
Fee: €260
Subsidized fee for the UPF Comunity members: €60
IMPORTANT: If you are a student or a worker of the UPF Group (BSM, ELISAVA, BGSE, ESCI, ESIM, IBEI and/or TCM, and some PRBB profiles), we regret to inform you that you are not eligible for the subsidized fee and that you will have to pay the standard fee of 260 euros. Additionally, you are not eligible for the UPF-specific qualification CATStudies.
Idiomes UPF will check that all applicants are eligible to attend the course. Otherwise, Idiomes UPF will have no other option but to withdraw the applicant from the course.
- The fee includes the teaching, the additional material and the UPF course certificate.
- If the student decides to leave the course, please note that under no circumstances will the fee for the course be refunded. Only if Idiomes UPF cancel a course because the minimum required (10) is not reached, will the full fee for the course be refunded.

Level (A1 CEFR)* 
- Morning group: Tuesday & Thursday, 11 am - 1.30 pm [face-to-face]
- Afternoon group: Tuesday & Thursday, 2.30 - 5 pm [face-to-face]
- Evening group: Tuesday & Thursday, 5.30 - 8 pm [face-to-face]
The contents of the A1 level (CEFR) are divided into two modules:
Catalan First Aid Kit (15 hours): the course follows a completely communicative approach, with different activities inside and outside of the classroom. Students will learn their first notions of Catalan in a real and controlled environment: cafeteria, library, campus, etc. It includes two practical sessions scheduled on Friday: 20 & 27 October.
Going Further in Catalan: this course focuses on the four linguistic skills, along grammar and vocabulary, in order to acquire the contents of beginner’s level A1 (CEFR)
Level 2 (A2 CEFR)
- Monday & Wednesday, 5-7.30 pm [face-to-face]
Level 3 (B1 CEFR)
- Tuesday & Thursday, 3-5.30 pm [face-to-face]
Level 5 (B2.2 CEFR)
- Tuesday & Thursday, 4.30-7 pm [online + 6 face-to-face sessions]
The face-to-face sessions will include interactive activities in groups, a cultural visit and the final exam.

If you are studying at UPF* (exchange students and undergraduate, master’s and PhD students) and you are making an effort to learn Catalan (levels A1, A2 and B1), you can apply for the new UPF-specific qualification UPF Diploma in Catalan Language and Cultural Studies (CATStudies).
*Group UPF students are excluded.
