Carolyn Rosé, Ulrike Kress and Davinia Hernández-Leo are guest-editing a special issue at ijCSCL on "Artificial Intelligence in CSCL: Discerning Promising Opportunities while Avoiding Pitfalls in Light of Past Accomplishments and Recent Advances"

The special issue will explore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in fostering, enhancing, and studying collaborative learning experiences across diverse educational contexts. Theoretical considerations as well as the application of collaborative learning and knowledge construction can benefit from AI. From adaptive learning systems. intelligent scripts to automated analysis of group interactions, AI holds the promise of making collaborative learning more inclusive, effective, and scalable. However, this potential comes with challenges related to ethics or reliability. The vision is for a collection of articles that serve as position and empirical papers contextualized in the history of AI in CSCL and offering responsible forward-looking perspectives in the field.
