TIDE in CHI 2026, in Barcelona!

Davinia Hernández-Leo, head of TIDE, served as Local Chair for CHI 2026, with over 5300 participants. She also co-organized a workshop on critical resistance to AI in education, which featured a paper by Patricia Khoje and Patricia Santos on "learning agreements", both members of TIDE.

In addition, Khadija El Aadmi-Laamech and Patricia Santos contributed to the workshop Child-Centred AI-Mediated Collaborative Agency by Design, presenting a new pictorial titled “AI-Mediated Scaffolding for Student Agency and Peer Collaboration.” Their work explores how Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) can support student agency through the lens of Self-Determination Theory (SDT). In early childhood education, agency is closely tied to autonomy, competence, and relatedness—the three Basic Psychological Needs (BPNs) that underpin motivation and well-being. The team introduced an approach connected to the Well-being Journey (WB Journey), a cyclical process designed to support these needs. Within this framework, GenAI functions as a supportive tool that adapts evidence-based recommendations into personalized group activities targeting unmet needs.
