The demand to study at UPF has increased by 12% compared to last year

The highest cut-off mark still applies to Medicine (12.650 out of 14), followed by Biomedical Engineering and International Business Economics.

5,866 students have applied to take one of the 27 undergraduate degrees at Pompeu Fabra University in the 2025-2026 academic year as their first choice. This is 12.5% higher than for the previous year and means that for each available place there are 1.88 first-choice applications. It is the second public university in Catalonia to experience a growth in demand, only behind the Rovira i Virgili University. The vice-rector for Academic Planning, Sergi Torner, appraises this increase in demand by stating that “[it] shows that more and more students want to come to study at our university”. The highest cut-off mark still applies to Medicine —requiring a score of 12.650 out of 14—, followed by Biomedical Engineering and International Business Economics. “It is important to note that the increased demand affects studies in the vast majority of fields at UPF, from engineering to social sciences and communication”, vice-rector Torner adds. UPF offers 2,419 undergraduate places for the 2025-2026 academic year.

 

The increase in demand can be seen in twelve bachelor’s degrees —almost half of the total— and is mainly to study at the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences (MELIS), the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Communication, and the Faculty of Economics and Business. First-choice applications have also increased for the School of Engineering to study Biomedical Engineering and Mathematical Engineering in Data Science.

There are six bachelor’s degrees in which first-choice applications more than triple the number of places on offer. They are Medicine, International Business Economics, Global Studies, Advertising and Public Relations, Audiovisual Communication, and Philosophy, Politics and Economics. For seven, demand is twice the supply: Biomedical Engineering, Mathematical Engineering in Data Science, Biomedical Sciences, Journalism, the double bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Law, the double bachelor’s degree in Law and Business Management and Administration/Economics, and Business Management and Administration.

The bachelor’s degrees in Audiovisual Communication, Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations, and Political and Administration Sciences at UPF have the highest cut-off marks in the entire Catalan public university system.

Cut-off marks

 

For the coming academic year, the cut-off mark has risen for 10 of the bachelor’s degrees offered by UPF. For 22, the mark required is higher than 9 points (out of 14); 5 bachelor’s degrees have a mark higher than 12, and 14 require between 10 and 12 points to gain access.

Record number of students pre-enrolled at Catalan public universities

 

A total of 62,238 students have applied to take undergraduate studies at one of the seven Catalan public universities and the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia. In other words 8.43% more than last year. More than 77% of students already have a place assigned in one of the chosen studies. For the first time, the number of pre-enrolled students exceeds the 60,000 applications barrier.
