Functions
The Delegate for the Implementation of Medicine Studies has the following powers and tasks:
- Promotion and monitoring of the implementation process for the Medicine curriculum.
- Promotion and coordination of the creation of the necessary institutional structures arising from the implementation of new study programmes in the field of Medicine.
- Advising on the needs in teaching and of the teachers in the context of the degree in Medicine.
- Advising and participation in the Joint Committee meetings scheduled for the Ministry of Health, Pompeu Fabra University and the Barcelona Mar Health Park (PSMAR) health agreement.
Curricula
Fernando Giráldez is a full professor of Physiology at Pompeu Fabra University. A PhD in medicine from the University of Valladolid in 1979, he continued his training at Cambridge and King’s College London. In 2001 he joined the nascent project of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB). He has been department director and vice-rector for Research.
He has enjoyed an extensive career as a researcher in the areas of neuroscience and developmental biology, focusing on sensory organ function. He has published around one hundred scientific articles and chapters in international books and journals, and has been invited to international universities and research institutes, scientific meetings and symposia. An expert and evaluator of scientific journals and research funding bodies, he was the founder of the Spanish societies of developmental biology (SEBD) and of biophysics (SBE). He has extensive experience in undergraduate and postgraduate university education in which he collaborated launching several courses and in the design of the postgraduate of the European Higher Education Area (Bologna) in Biomedical Engineering and Medicine. He has recently designed courses on neurosciences geared towards the humanities and social sciences, and has regularly participated in activities aimed at the public dissemination of scientific thought.
