Functions
The Secretary-general, in addition to the powers vested in him/her by Article 56 of the UPF Statutes shall, under the guidance of the rector, coordinate and oversee the following matters:
- The implementation of the statutes and regulations, including the drafting of the new statutes
- Support in the University’s institutional planning and administrative organization
- Support in the policy on material resources, information systems and electronic administration
- Institutional integrity, transparency and the right of access to information
- Liaise with the UPF ombuds officer.
- Liaise between the academic bodies and administrative services and the Board of Trustees, except those that fall with the rector. Also excluded are relations concerning the staff and the budget of the Board of Trustees, which fall with the general manager.
- The coordination of the processes of creating and modifying the academic structure and the affiliation of centres
Curricula
Enric Vallduví (PhD: linguistics, University of Pennsylvania, 1990) is associate professor in the Department of Translation and Language Sciences since 1995. Previously, he had been visiting professor at University of Southern California (1990-91) and research associate at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (1991-92) and University of Edinburgh (1993-95). He has been a visiting scholar at the University of Otago (2013-14) and has also taught graduate courses at Cornell University, Universität Wien and Rijksuniversiteit Groningen.
Vallduví's research focuses on aspects of language that depend on information available in the context of utterance. He is a member of the officially-recognized Formal Linguistics Research Group (GLiF) and has been principal investigator of funded projects on information structure and context modelling, noncanonical constructions, and discourse particles. In 2001 he was awarded the Distinction for the Promotion of University Research by the Catalan government. His work has appeared in journals like Linguistics, Probus, and Journal of Pragmatics and books published by Academic Press, Cambridge University Press, CSLI/Stanford, Garland, Oxford University Press, and Routledge.
Vallduví has served as Assistant Dean in the School of Translation and Interpreting (1999-2002, 2016), Head of the Department of Translation and Language Sciences (2004-2011), Coordinator of the M.A. in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics (2011-2012), and UPF’s Vice-rector for Research (2017-2023). He has acted in governing bodies and committees at different levels within UPF (Senate, Governing Council, Quality Committee, Advisory Committee of the Language Programme (PEI), Strategic Plan 2016-2025, etc.) and has taken part in assessment activities in a number of external agencies (ACSUG, AEI, AGAUR, ANECA, FSR/FNRS (Belgium), NEST-FP6 (EU)).
