Teaching
In the area of teaching, the initiative has focused on promoting and designing difernt programmes related to planetary wellbeing.
Master’s degree programmes

Master’s degree in Planetary Health
The master’s degree in Planetary Health, jointly designed by UPF, the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) and ISGlobal, is the first programme in the world with this focus. The programme, which will be launched online in October 2021, aims to provide interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary training to professionals from different fields of knowledge to enable them to analyse the risks that the global environmental and climate crisis poses for human health, assess the potential impact thereof, and propose adaptation and mitigation solutions.

Master’s degree in Public Health
The main aim of the master’s degree programme in Public Health, jointly offered by UPF and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), is to train students to understand health/disease processes and their determinants from a populational perspective and to address health problems through collective interventions to promote, protect and restore health.

Master’s degree in Migration Studies
The master’s degree programme in Migration Studies aims to train researchers in the field of migration and diversity governance. The programme’s main focuses are political science, the Mediterranean, and qualitative research, and it offers two tracks: a research track and an expert track.

Master’s degree in International Studies on Media, Power and Difference
The programme analyses the role of the media in constructing, representing and recognizing the difference and the diversity of the most vulnerable groups, through a cross-cutting, critical look at the power structures behind communicative practices.

Postgraduate Course in Sustainability Transition Management and Climate Emergency
This postgraduate course aims to equip you with the tools, knowledge and expertise to analyse companies’ environmental impact, design a result-oriented strategy, secure funding and develop a compelling communications plan backed by everyone involved.
Minor in Planetary Wellbeing
The minor is a supplementary form of training for UPF students, organized and carried out to enable acquisition of specific skills in a different field of knowledge from the one constituting the core of each student’s degree programme. The principal objective of this course is to expand knowledge and to understand the complex, interrelated and systemic problems threatening human and animal wellbeing as well as the wellbeing of the planet itself as a global ecosystem. It aims to identify integrated, innovative and interdisciplinary solutions to these problems. For more information about the Minor, please consult its official website here.
MOOC
MOOCs (massive open online courses) aim to share and disseminate knowledge based on materials that teaching staff upload to the website and discussions about them. The university has been working on the design of a MOOC entitled ‘Introduction to Planetary Wellbeing’. Students can participate in this activity for 1 ECTS and apply for credit recognition here.
The MOOC Introduction to Planetary Wellbeing consists of five parts:
-
Module 0: The new challenges on a planetary scale
-
Module 1: Introduction to Planetary Wellbeing
-
Module 2: Climate change and sustainability
-
Module 3: Planetary health
-
Module 4: Sustainable and healthy global cities
Specific courses
UPF launched the Barcelona Program for Interdisciplinary Studies (BaPIS) and the Barcelona International Summer School (BISS), two programmes that open up the opportunity to enjoy an internationalization experience from home. Within their framework, UPF offers several courses revolving around planetary wellbeing. See the website of BaPIS and BISS, respectively.
